CASA CAVA
Competition proposal 2025, Honorable mention
Collaborator: Emma Rantanen
Casa Cava is a semi-underground residence designed to harmonize with the riverside landscape of La Juanita, minimizing visual impact while enhancing thermal comfort. The project consists of three structures – a garage, a guesthouse/office, and the main house – all connected by a slate-stone path that weaves through existing vegetation and natural features like a rainwater-collecting pond.
Rooted in sustainable design, the home leverages thermal mass, green roofs, and local materials such as Algarrobo wood and quarried stone to foster durability and a strong connection to place. A rooftop terrace with a pool, grill, and bonfire area creates an inviting space for outdoor living, while the interior spaces frame views of the river, yielding a tranquil place to call home.
